watercolor 29.5” x 22”
on #140 lb Arches CP paper; Winsor Newton Rose Madder Genuine; Mission Burnt Sienna, French Ultramarine Deep, Cobalt #1
A group gathers on the beach just before sunset, taken with the experience of seeing the ocean, maybe for the first time. Children wade in, and photos are snapped. Long blue shadows streak across the sand. The mood is calm, yet each person is engaged in the action in some way. The figures are seen from above on the pier.

Watercolor on Arches #140 paper
A Green Heron, perched on a branch over the water, is avidly watching for his breakfast to appear. The mangroves offer him some camouflage from above. The sky and mnagrove are reflected in the still water. Every morning on my walk I see this little guy as I pass by on the boardwalk above, and marvel at his concentration. It was easy for me to capture several reference photos from a few feet away.
